A Postcard from Borneo: Our Wildlife Adventure

Borneo was the last leg of our travels. We spent 7 days there before the big flight to Sydney. There was a huge sense of relief as we got our flights from Phuket to Kuala Lumpur to Sandakan, mostly because now, everything was already paid for. The whole week was essentially a private, organised tour that we’d booked months and months ago. With funds getting steadily lower, it was brilliant to not have to worry about things like airport transfers, meals and day trips.

It was a very relaxing way to end our adventures. After hiking through Sri Lanka, trekking in Thailand and motor-biking down Vietnam it was great to not have to make any decisions and let someone else (literally) take the steering wheel.

Half a World Away: 2017 Summary and Review

I’m a pretty down to earth person. I don’t normally go in for the whole; new year, new beginning, time for reflection etc. etc. etc. But I’m meeting a lot of new people at the moment. They ask where I’m from and how I got to where I am now, and actually, it does make me stop and think about all the changes that have taken place over the past year.

Thinking about it, 2017 has been a huge year for me. Probably one of the biggest years of my life. So much amazing stuff has happened that I thought actually, just this once, maybe I should stop for a second, to take it all in. (more…)

A Postcard from Vietnam Part 3: Hoi An & Ho Chi Minh City

It was the ride from Hue to Hoi An that was our most eventful journey yet. Actually, it pretty much sums up the entire reason I began recording our travels.

Because at the end of the day it’s not for social media and it’s not something ‘extracurricular’ to put on a CV and it’s certainly not because I have shed loads of fans out there hanging on my every word.

 It’s so that in 5, 10 or 50 years’ time, I can read back on my posts, having stumbled across them in some sort of e-clear out, and be transported back to that time when we almost broke down on an impossibly narrow and gut-wrenchingly steep mountain road.
