Travel Fitness Log: Workout #7 (Chiangmai)

It was in Chiangmai that I ventured into an actual gym for the first time since leaving London. By which I mean, a building whose sole purpose was fitness. Aka, not a crappy hotel ‘gym’, not a swimming pool, and not just a space in-between some trees to hang a TRX and do some ab exercises.

I stumbled across Miss Fitness Chiangmai on one of my aimless wanders around the town. I was craving a good workout- 16 hours on a train had left me in a bizarre state of lethargic restlessness. If I hadn’t been wearing completely inappropriate workout attire, I would have gone in there and then. Instead, flip-flopping home, I resolved try it out the following day.

A Postcard from Chiangmai (and my very first sleeper train!)

I LOVED CHIANGMAI. I’m writing this a little while after I normally write my postcards, and looking back that’s definitely the thing that springs to mind. I just loved it.

Cheap, friendly, safe and beautiful. I don’t know exactly what I expected, but this quaint little city went far beyond what I thought it’d be.

It’s a good thing we loved it so much, because it was a mission and a half to get there. It was supposed to be a simple sleeper train. You know. Go to sleep in Bangkok and BOOM next thing you know you’re in Chiangmai.

Travel Fitness Log: Workout #6 (Bangkok)

This workout feels like a very long time ago! I’ve had it saved on my phone for a good couple of weeks now but wifi issues, and generally being busy travelling around has meant that it joined the backlog of workouts to be uploaded.

The ‘gym’ that we had in our Bangkok apartment complex didn’t have a vast amount of equipment, but neither Tom or I really minded. With stunning views of the Bangkok skyline from the 53rd floor, we were perfectly content with the yoga mats, Swiss balls and TRX provided. It was more than enough to start our couple of days in the city with a satisfying workout. (more…)
